It's the 100th Anniversary of the publication of Willa Cather's "My Ántonia", based on the real-life person Annie Sadílek from near Red Cloud, Nebraska. I have been working on her genealogy, and now have data back to 6 of her great grandparents.

Of course, all of this needs to be verified by an expert, but it's a start.

I hired someone to go to the Prague archives to obtain the birth records of the first three children. I have not yet received those results. Based on index records, however, this is what I think the first generation looks like.

Parents František Sadílek and Anna Rybničkova. Anna was born 28 Apr 1837 in Mžižovice #11.
They were married 30 Oct 1860.

14 Jul 1861 Anton
18 Mar 1864 Josef
07 Dec 1866 Františka +9 Dec 1866
16 Mar 1869 Anna
31 Dec 1871 Františka +14 Jan 1872
17 Dec 1872 František
19 Aug 1875 Kristina

Most were born in Mžižovice, house #11

A transcription of father and mother data from Annie's record:

Sadílek František, chalupník z Mžižovice č. 11, syn Michala Sadílka, domkáře z Vestce č. 1. okres Benešov, a matky Marie, rozené Šusta-ové z Choratic č. -- okres Benešov.
Rybníček-ova Anna, dcera Josefa Rybníčka, chalupníka z Mžižovice č. 11 a matky Kateřiny rozené Chlumský, z Odstiv č. -- okres Benešov.

Sadílek František, peasant from Mžižovice #11, son of Michal Sadílek, cottager from Vestec #1, district Benešov, and mother Marie, née Šusta from Choratice #(unknown) district Benešov.

Rybníček Anna, daughter of Josef Rybníček, peasant from Mžižovice #11 and mother Kateřina née Chlumský, from Vodslivy #(unknown), district Benešov.

More to follow.
