country of origin

Hello. I have been trying to research our family name on the internet, but due to inexperience I have encountered obstacles. One of these is that all the information I have come across deals with our family in the United States, and I am interested in the pre-U.S. history, specifically the country or region of origin of the surname. For years I have been told it's Germany, but recently I met someone with the surname, "Baugh", who told me, as other Rumbaughs have, that all those with derivations of "Baugh" in the surname are related. But, she also told me quite assuredly that "Baugh" was a Welsh surname, and the Welsh word for "stubborn". If true, it would certainly explain alot, as I'm sure you know what I mean. The "stubborn" part, I mean. Usually, surnames from a certain ethnic group are words or contain words in that ethnic language. "rum", "baugh", and "rumbaugh" failed to produce any listings at all in several German dictionaries. Though this is certainly not proof, I'm just not so sure It's German anymore. Any input about pre-America Rumbaugh would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
