Hi Jackie. I am so happy to hear from you. I have researched our mutual Royael family extensively and would be thrilled to help you in any way. Your Gilbert Royael was the brother of my gg grandfather, Amos Royael. I searched all siblings of my ancestor in the hope of finding additional information but mostly photos. I would be THRILLED if you were able to conjure up a photo of Gilbert from any sources you might have.

I have traced to John Royal and Sarah Ferguson as the earliest Royals in our line. Gilbert b. ca. 1857 was the 8th child of John and Sarah. I know Gilbert died in 1931 and at the time was living with his daughter and her husband, the Hoglunds. I was able to find Norman Hoglund some time ago but although he promised to go through photos and get back to me, he never did. I felt since Gilbert was living with the Hoglunds when he died, they would have had whatever personal things/photos Gilbert had of his Royal family, yet that never led anywhere.

I am so happy to hear from you and would love to share information. I am not sure if you would have known my direct line - Lydia Royal Brohme (gr grandmother) since she died young in 1905. But she had a brother, John, and a sister, Emma, both of whom left descendants. I recently learned that Emma's daughter, Lydia, married a Charles Lyons and died I think in 1952. She is buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery here in Queens. I know they had two children, Walter and Margaret, but I was never able to trace them forward. I also know John married and had at least one son, William, who died at the age of 11 but they might have had more children. John remained in Brooklyn and died there.

Please let me know how I can help. I hope you may have some information that can help me as well, particularly photos. I always felt if I could see what Gilbert looked like, maybe I could imagine what his brother, Amos, looked like as well. I have no early Royal photos whatsoever. I would be only too happy to provide all information I have on our ancestors for your granddaughter.

Looking forward to hearing from you again. If you like, you can email me at
