My father Alfred Rowbotham (b. Ashton-u-Lyne, 1902) told me that his family were originally Huguenots who fled from Belgium to Cheshire and anglicised their name (which was approx. Rubisthume) to Rowbotham. His father was James Allen (B. 1877 in Hyde, Cheshire), and his grandfather James, but originally the forename was Jacobi. My father had a great aunt from Belgium, Jana. Does anyone know anything about this branch of the family?
