Does anyone have the History of the Village of Rixford?
I am Looking for information of the RIXFORD family from there.
I have Emma Mc CRARY b. abt 1865 NY m. Mr.? RIXFORD and lived (1901) Rixford, Otto TWP. McKean County, PA.

Who was her husband and children? Where did they go?

Any help is appreciated. Thank You.
Apparently the village of Rixford was named after the RIXFORD family or was plated by a RIXFORD (maybe Sam Rixford?). The area owned at one time by a Blanchard.

Rixford, William R
W. R. Rixford, an aged resident of this county,(McKean) died at his home, Monday afternoon, aged 59 years. For 43 years he had lived in Rixford, the place having been named after his father. Besides his widow he leaves four sons and five daughters, the only children living away from home being Mrs.L. W. Barton of Eldred and Mrs. Charles Manning of Rixford. Funeral services will be conducted at the family home at 2 o'clock with burial at the Rixford cemetery

And according to other posts, he family previously lived in West Union, Steuben County, NY in the 1800's, coming from New Hampshire.
Rixford is the second largest village in Otto-Township, located on route 246, commonly referred to as Looker Mountain Trail. However in a recent census report it says Rixford has a population 0f 572. In 1880 1, 127 residents probably due to the oil boom, but the population may not have lasted to long see below,.
The storm of November, 1879, destroyed the new church building at Rixford, and a number of derricks there.
The Rixford fire of May 9, 1880, occasioned by a gas explosion, destroyed seventy-five buildings, forming the business center of the town, in less than two hours, and burned up 70,000 barrels of oil and forty rigs.
The bush fires around Rixford began on August 31, 1881, near Baker's trestle, and spread rapidly, destroying twenty-four rigs and consuming large quantities of oil

The J.H. Mullin Post No. 356, G. A. R. was organized at Rixford in July of 1883.

In the 1930 Census for Schenectady County, New York. There is a Emma Rixford b. abt 1882, Spouse:William RIXFORD

She seems to be to young?
Then there is a Emma that may be a widow in the 1910 (Michigan) United States Federal Census (also in 1920 and 1930) Living with the NICHOLES family.

Apparently in the 1900- 1910 Census there is a Jennie E Rixford b. abt 1862 Spouse: David RIXFORD, location Potter County, Pennsylvania.
