Claudia Sophronia Rives was born May 24, 1845, at Collirene, Lowndes County, AL. She was the daughter of Claudius Green Rives and Sarah Sophronia Waldron of Collirene. She was a direct descendant of George Walton of Georgia, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

In 1866, Miss Rives graduated from Judson College, the Baptist school for women at Marion, Perry County, AL. Her father, C. G. Rives, was a trustee of Judson. At the time of her death in 1945, Claudia Rives Dunklin was the oldest living graduate of Judson College.

On June 27, 1866, Miss Rives became the bride of William John “Willie” Dunklin (b. Oct. 1841), the son of Thomas Wathin Dunklin and Martha Georgiana Crumpton. T. W. Dunklin was a deacon of Bethany Baptist Church at Collirene, and the son-in-law of one of Bethany's earliest pastors, Rev. John Crumpton. The couple were wed by the groom's uncle, Rev. Boardman Hartwell Crumpton.

William John Dunklin departed this life on December 23, 1911, and was laid to rest at the Rives family cemetery (now called the Collirene Cemetery), Collirene, Lowndes County, AL. The active cemetery is located behind the old John May Pierce home, the only antebellum home now standing on Collirene Hill.

Claudia Rives Dunklin passed away shortly after her 100th birthday on June 22, 1945, Selma, Dallas County, AL. At the time of her death, she was living at the home of her daughter, Anna Dunklin (Mrs. John S.) Faulk. Mrs. Dunklin's remains were buried at the Collirene Cemetery, Collirene, Lowndes County, AL.

The Dunklin and Rives families were faithful members of Bethany Baptist Church at Collirene. As of this writing (2006), Bethany Church has an active, though very small, membership. The church will observe its annual Homecoming on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at 11 AM. All are welcome.

The Dunklin Cemetery at Collirene has been neglected for many years and is a badly overgrown state. Dunklin family volunteers are wanted for cleaning and maintenance of this historic site.
