I am also researching Rileys in NE and PA.
Joseph Thomas Riley was born about 1883 in Omaha, NE. He died at 88, about 1971 and is buried near Scranton, in Picksville, PA (or Peckville, PA), Lackawana, PA. He was a railroad conductor, thought I do not know for which railroad.
He married his first wife, Mary Anne McLaughlin (1878-1916) in Rock Lake, Wayne County, PA in 1905. She died in childbirth, as did the child. Their one daughter was Mildred Marie (Riley) Ivey (1907-2000). Mildred Marie married Joseph Harrison Ivey (1910-1981). Both mother, Mary Anne (McLaughlin) Riley and child are buried in Rock Lake, PA. The family also lived in New York City and Lakewood, Wayne County, PA.
Joseph Thomas married his second wife, Catherine Kane in 1920. Their one child, John William "Jack" Riley was killed at the age of 21 in a plane crach in California during WWII.
Joseph Thomas' parents were John William and Mary (LeStrange) Riley. John William was probably born in Omaha, NE, but could have been born I Rock Lake, PA; Mary LeStrange was probably born in Ireland. Their children were:
Austin, who was a teacher and died of a ruptured appendix. He is buried in Rock Lake, PA.
Cornelius, died of typhoid fever in Omaha, NE.
James, died of Typhoid fever in Omaha, NE
Andrew worked on the railroad and is buried in Rock Lake, PA
Another possible Riley relation is Thomas Joseph Reilly, son of John Joseph Reilly, who moved to Spalding, Nebraska in the late 1800 or early 1900s where he married Loretta Pritchard 1909. Loretta Pritchard's family was from the Rock Lake area also. He died in Omaha in 1966. I am told that their descendendants are still in Nebraska presently. I do not know how they related to John william and Joseph Thomas Riley above, except that they likely descend from the two original Irish brothers, Bernard and Cornelius Riley, who settled in Rock Lake, PA in the 1820s or 1830s. This information comes from other researchers of the Irish in Wayne County, PA.
Other Wayne County Irish related to the Rileys, McLaughlins and LeStranges are Bloomer, Hughes and O'Neill.
I would love to hear from anyone with information about these families.
