Unidentifed Rigsbys

Posted: 1194492124000
Classification: Query
Surnames: Rigsby, Rigby

These are the ones that I just can't connect to any other
Rigsby in my database. If you have information about the
parents of any of these Rigsbys, please contact me.

Please read the introductory message for an explanation
of this file.

WARNING: I can't guarantee that all the information here
is correct. This group probably has a higher likelihood of
being incorrect.

Jefferson SALYER
+ Cynthia RIGSBY

Married BEF 1888
Jefferson SALYER:
Born Tuesday 23 July 1861, Montgomery Co., Kentucky
Died Thursday 23 May 1929
Buried Bee Tree Creek, Carver, Magoffin Co, KY at Warnie Bailey Cem
Cynthia RIGSBY:
Alias Cynthia SALYER (BEF 1888)
Born Tuesday 29 March 1864
Died Saturday 31 January 1942
Buried Bee Tree Creek, Carver, Magoffin Co, KY at Warnie Bailey Cem

[She really should be R17., who was in Johnson Co (next to
Magoffin) with Jefferson on the 1880 census. That Cynthia married
John Collier, though. All the Rigsby females in the area who were
born about 1862 are accounted for.]
[Cynthia is not d/o Henry Rigsby as many sites claim. He died in 1861
in the Civil War.]
[I suspect Jeff's wife was not a Rigsby. In Salyersville, Magoffin Co
on the 1870 census is a Cynthia Reed age 6. She is the only Cynthia
of the correct age in the county.]

Liz Rigsby
+ Arthur Lewis 1882 d 1956

genforum message 449

I am looking for information regarding Martha A. Rigsby and her
ancestors. She married David Filander Fulkerson b. 1850[-05-17] in MO
[d 1906-11-04] and
had a son names James Thomas Fulkerson b. 1872 in MO and a
daughter Margaret Elizabeth "Lizzy" Fulkerson b. 1882 in MO.
Resided in Maries and Pulaski counties in MO.

[on the 1880 census for Maries Co MO David's wife is Margaret c1857 MO.
The Maries Co Rigsbys are from R56 John, but I don't know of a Margaret
or Martha in his family born around 1857.

Martha Rigsby 1841 d 1921 + John Wesley Weaver 1840 d 1902

[She must be descended from R05, but I don't know who she is.]

John Wesley Kerby [Parents] was born about 1800 in Warren County,
Kentucky. He died before 1 Jun 1850 in Macon County, Missouri. John married
Sophronia Rigsby on 1820 in Huntsville, Randolph, Missouri.

John was counted in a census 1840 in Marion Township, Monroe, Missouri.

Sophronia Rigsby "Sophia" was born 1801 in North Carolina. She married John
Wesley Kerby on 1820 in Huntsville, Randolph, Missouri.

Sophia was counted in a census 1840 in Marion Township, Monroe, Missouri. She
was counted in a census 1850 in 52nd District, Macon, Missouri.

[No Rigsby in Randolph Co MO before 1823. The only Rigsby who did live there
was R05.5 James Jr, who was born in 1793 and thus couldn't have a daughter
born 1800. James was born in NC. He did not have a sister Soph*. He had a
sister Susannah who married John Sears, and a sister whose name I still
don't know who married Jeremiah Smith. James did move from Randolph Co MO
to Macon Co MO, but he did not leave anywhere near Sophronia.]
[Was MO even a state in 1820?]

Bessie Ann Rigsby
+ Desper Gay Withrow 1899-12-23 Greenbrier Co VA d 1979-07-xx Grayson Co KY s/o Allen Harvey Withrow + Nora M Clemens

[not on 1930 census]

vi. CHARLES WASHINGTON DAVIS, b. March 29, 1833, Monroe, Overton, Tennessee;
d. January 10, 1911, Salem, Utah; m. DELILAH MARKHAM RIGSBY.

[Charles s/o Henry Davis + Sarah Hunter]
[Delilah b 1839-03-25 TN d 1909-02-20 UT]

[I think Delilah was a Markham, not a Rigsby.]

Ashe County, North Carolina Court of Pleas and
Quarter Sessions Minutes for 1863

Ordered by the court that A. J. Vanoy be appointed overseer of the road in room of J,.
M. Rigsby, same hands and bounds from the age of 15 to 60 years of age.

[The only J Rigsby in Ashe Co at the time was R84.3 Jane.]

NC Roots maillist

Tilman (RICE) Rigsby, mentioned below, was the son of Mary "Polly" Ann
"Pop" RICE RIGSBY, daughter of Isaac and Nancy KEITH RICE, of Madison
County, NC.
Mary Ann - Polly Ann RICE - married BARNEY RIGSBY. Her gravemarker says
"Polly Ann Rigsby, Madison County, NC, 1830 - 1888. Died at 58 years."

[Barney supposedly born 1842. No Barney Rigsby that early. Sarah Rice
married R71.6 William. He did not have a brother Barney, or a brother
born 1842. 1860 census shows Bernard with R71 Thomas, but Bernard is
not listed on the 1850 census. Perhaps adopted?]

Rebecca Duncan Rigsby c1847
+ 1867-04-05 Andrew Turner Holman c1845 NC d 1883-01-16 Jefferson Co TN s/o William Holman + Catherine Elizabeth Eller

1 Mitchell Holman c1868

[There is an Andrew Holman in Jefferson Co TN on the 1880 census,
but his wife is Rhodie age 24. I can't find them on the 1870. I
can't place Rebecca or Rhoda either way.]

might be [R51.5.3]

Elizabeth Jane Curry (F)

Her married name was Elizabeth Jane Rigsby. Elizabeth Jane Curry was born on 22
May 1874 at Kansas.1,2 She was the daughter of Hiram M. Currey and Angelina Jane
Burke. Elizabeth Jane Curry was educated on 7 May 1881 at Nine Mile School,
Leavenworth Co., Kansas.3 She married Robert Rigsby before 1884.4 Elizabeth Jane
Curry died at Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.

Martha married Henry Rigsby on 26 Oct 1873 in Grayson Co,
Tx. Henry was born in 1841.

in Monroe, Overton, TN.

He was married to Hannah WORKMAN.

Hannah WORKMAN(7) (2) was born on 21 Feb 1821 in Carlisle, Nicholas, KY. She
died on 28 Dec 1873 in Springville, Utah Co, UT. Parents: John WORKMAN and

[prob a grandson of R14; not in Overton Co on 1840 census]
[no Rigsby in Overton Co before 1830]
[Hannah is supposed to have married James Chadwick after John died. I
don't see either of them on the 1850 census.]

Dec 1924 in near Van Dyke, Comanche County, Texas. He was buried in Zion Hill Cemetery, Comanche

while still in Arkansas and that she died very soon without children. That does not explain James Robert
(1867-1877), buried at Zion Hill Cemetery, with tombstone showing him to be the son of Wm. and M. A.

died of smallpox and there was a Mary E. (born in 1862) who never made in to Texas. Nora also said
several of the family died in Arkansas of smallpox about 1865." (Ralph Terry.)

information that might ring a bell. I am specifically looking for birth
dates, wedding dates, death dates, where buried, whom married, where they
lived (am sure that they lived in southern AL and GA, but where
exactly?), and their children that they had. A quick note- Matilta Rigsby
was found in a pig pen and adopted by the Rigsby's. There are questions
concerning whether or not she had a brother with her that was adopted by
a neighboring family, and also whether Matilta is spelled with a "t" or a
"d" as in Matilda. Dates range from 1800's thru 1900's.

[I have 3 Matildas, but none from AL or GA]

I don't know of any VA Rigsbys in OK. None of the Rigsby wives in
OK in 1910 who were born in AR have a son age 10 - 12. I don't see
him anywhere on the 1910 or 1900 census.]

I am originally from Nicholas County, WV and have been attempting to trace
my lineage, but I have come to a stand still. I have traced my grandmothers
family back to England, but my grandfoather's family is a bit more
complicated. Any help I can get would be appreciated.

I am looking for information pertaining to Mary Flora Pearl Rigsby and
Alderson Charles Milam. They were in the area near Nicholas County WV right
around 1910. I know that Mary's mother was Cherokee, and that Charles worked
on the railroads, but that is all the information I have regarding either of
