I have a letter from William Carlos Fields and it has some information but not much. This letter is 20 years old and I don't know if he found out any more. He just gave information on some census records:
Sarah Bradshaw Redden, born Aug. 1827 in Illinois, husband Joseph Redden born Fayette CVo. W.Va. (Probably married about 1846/47 in W.Va.) Ohio census in 1870 lists the following named--Sarah Redden Age 42, Born Illinois, living Aid Twp. Lawrence Co. Ohio.
Nancy J. 19/born Va.
Lucrecia 14/born Va.
Sylviria (Bessie??) 12/born Va.
John W. 9/born Ohio
1880 census-living in Sciotoville Co. Ohio
Sarah Redden 52/widow Father born Va. mother born Va.
spelled Redding in census records
Deaver Thomas 38/boarder
Combs, William Henry Harrison 32/born Ky.father and mother born Ky.
Delmer/son-5 born Ohio
Albert/son-2 born Ohio
William seems to think that Sarah's real father was Indian. She is listed in the 1890 Special Veteran Census as widow of Joseph.
He also has the 1900 Census but I get confused. He says there is a William Henry Harrison Stiles/63/born 1836-Ohio, husband of Amamda Melzina Redden Engle's daughter Nancy Engle-living with another family as a boarder
Sarah Redden 72, mother of 8 children-5 living, rented home, can read , cannot write, speaks english and a pensioner..
Living in her home in 1900--Maude E (grandaughter) born Jan 1883, age 17/ single born Ohio. Worked as a trimmer in shoe factory. Can read and write and speak English
Here's my connection--Francis Marion Engle/Amanda Redden, Sarah Elizabeth Engle/Elmer Sexton Fields, Lloyd Frazure Borden/ Amy Violet Fields, Lloyd Frazure Borden Jr./Opal Snee, Roy Curtis Mcpherson/Janet Borden, and then me! Becky
I don't really have any personal information but would love to hear about your connection and where "we" fit. And if you have any information on the fields/Borden side I would love that too. And while I'm being greedy any information on the Engle side after William C. Redden would be great. So I guess I need more infromation than I can provide for you.
Write soon. Thanks--Becky
