Melvin Drew Rainbow II
Melvin Drew Rainbow II, 64, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, formerly of Oberlin, Ohio transitioned from this life Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, after a long fight with cancer.

He was born May 1946 in Wheeling, West Virginia.

His family moved to Oberlin, OH in 1949 where he resided until he graduated from Oberlin High School in 1965.
He moved to Los Angeles, California and attended Compton College. In September 1971 he moved and resided in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he went on to graduate from Duffs Business College in 1996.
Melvin was employed with the Renaissance Publications, a black-owned business magazine in Pittsburgh, retiring from his sales position in 2006. He was a resident at Laurentian Hall Apartments on Penn Avenue.
He was currently attending The Living Word Church on Frankstown Road in Pittsburgh, where he was an advocate of change. He formerly attended Rust Methodist Church of Oberlin when at home with his family.
Survivors include his mother, Mary L. Rainbow of Oberlin; brother, Roger H. (Alexis) Rainbow [OHS ‘73] of Oberlin; sisters, Myrna D. (Otis) Tuck [OHS ‘63] of Solon, Ohio, Katherine Rainbow-Abba [OHS ‘68] of Lorain, OH; nieces, Ariana Rainbow of Atlanta, Georgia, Ana Rainbow of Lorain; aunt, Dr. Kathryn Earhart [OHS ‘38] of Topeka, Kansas; uncle, Mr. John R. Rainbow [OHS ‘42] of New York, New York; cousins, Mr. Fredric, Jr. Bryant of Bulverde, Texas, Mr. Reginald Rainbow of New York, New York and Holly Bryant of Topeka, Kansas.
Melvin D. Rainbow II was preceded in death by his father, Melvin D. Rainbow, Sr. [OHS ‘36]; grandmothers, Adeline Holly Rainbow and Estelle Wilson; grandfather, John Henry Rainbow; great-grandmother, Agnes Porter; uncle, Robert Wilson; uncle and aunt, James Reginald [OHS ‘39] and Margretta Rainbow of Salisbury, North Carolina.
Graveside services will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 at 10 A.M. at Westwood Cemetery in Oberlin.

Memorial services will immediately follow at Rust United Methodist Church, 128 Groveland St., Oberlin, OH 44074. Rev. Lorenzo Smart, Pastor, will officiate services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rust United Methodist Church.
