Dear Tina,
The information I have on the Thomas Pope I am descended from is as follows:
Thomas Pope, born about 1608, came to Plymouth, Massachusetts colony in 1627 on the "Mary and John". Thomas Pope was an able man of decided opinions, of independent positive character, and of considerable importance to the colony. He received a grant of land, served in the colonial army, was a surveyor, constable, and served on the jury. His tendency to express his opinions freely, together with his ready temper, involved him in disputes which led to arrests and fines on several occasions. In 1673 he removed with his family to Dartmouth. He landed on the shores of the Acushnet River where he negotiated with the Wampanoag Indians, the tribe of King Phillip and his father Wamsutta, for one hundred seventy-two acres of land which became the Pope homestead and today comprises the larger portion of the site of the city of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Thomas willed this homestead to his youngest son Isaac.

Thomas Pope, born about 1608, died in Dartmouth, October 1683. First marriage in Plymouth to Ann Fallowell; second to Sarah Jenny of Plymouth

Child of Thomas and Ann: Hannah Pope, born 1639, died March 12, 1710. Married Joseph Bartlett, born 1630, died 1703. Seven children were born of this union.

Children of Thomas and Sarah: Seth Pope, born January 13, 1648, died March 17, 1727.

Susannah Pope, born 1649, died July 1675. Married November 7, 1666 to Jacob Mitchell "Ensign". They were both slain by King Philip's warriors "early in the morning as they were going to the garrison wither they had sent their children the afternoon before". Three children were born of this union.

Thomas, born March 25, 1651, died young.

Sarah Pope, born February 14, 1652.

John Pope, born March 15, 1653, died July 1675. He was also killed by Prince Philip's warriors while fleeing to the Dartmouth garrison.

Joanna Pope, died about 1695. Married March 15, 1683, to John Hathaway of Dartmouth. Six children were born of this union.

Isaac Pope, born 1663, died 1733

I have no record of his religious following. I do have access to Pioneer Pope books I and II. We have an anual Pope reunion every third Sunday in July. I can put you in touch with our historian with lots more information if you like.

You can reach me directly at my email address which is or my mailing address is N1639 County Hwy. EE, Waupaca, WI 54981. I hope this will be of help.
