Just noticed that Ancestry's restoration of newsgroups was for Ancestry posted messages only, it did not include all Rootsweb posted messages. I'm reposting the below Rootsweb message, I posted in 2003 because I have some corrections, to follow in new messages.

Subject: Abram Ouderkirk - Leah Van Buskirk

The Ouderkerk Family Genealogy, Vol II lists Abram Ouderkirk b. 25 Dec 1778 Hoosick NY, d. 25 Feb 1855 Orwell NY, m. Leah __?__ b. 1791 Rensselear Cty NY, d. 4 Jun 1855 Orwell NY. I'm descended from their son Orson, b. 1814, m. Phoebe __?__

In the July 1999 Ouderkirk Family Newsletter it states that they believe Leah was Leah Buskirk, believed to be dau. of Martin and Maria (Van Ness) Van Buskirk.

In Childs directory of Jefferson County it states "... Harvey Bassett was born in Adams in 1819, and here learned the hatters' trade. He married Jane, daughter of Abram and Leah (Van Buskirk) Ouderkirk, in 1843 ..." Secondary source, but I take this as confirmation that Leah was a Van Buskirk.

In cemetery records for Rensselear County it lists:
Van Buskirk Martin d. 18 May 1828, 73y, wife Mariah Van Ness
Van Ness Mariah d. 17 Feb 1842, 81y/82y, husband Martin Van Buskirk

Anyone have any information to tie Leah to Martin and Mariah?

Thanks much -Mike
