I am looking for any and all info on John Rorke, originally O'Rourke. Born in Athlone, County Cavan (now Westmeath), Ireland in approx. 1807. Travelled to Carbonear, Newfoundland in 1824, married Mary Tocque, lived in Adam's Cove, Trinity Bay until 1838, moved back to Carbonear and operated a merchant firm John Rorke & Sons. Later became Minister of Fisheries, and given title Honourable by Queen Victoria, died in 1895 or 1896. Any information on John's early days in Ireland, his parents names, anything -- would be GREATLY appreciated.
