Guernsey NOYON family in France

I've just finished reading the messages here related to the Guernsey NOYONs, and I have some details that relate to a number of the messages, so I have started this new thread.

I am Guernsey born, though now living in France, and I am a direct descendant of a Francois Noyon born in Bretteville, France on 4 April 1801. This particular Francois was still living in Guernsey for the 1841 census, so I assume is not the one transported to Australia. I am currently researching French birth, marriage and death records that recently came online for the Manche department (which includes Bretteville) and have located a number of family records going back to the mid 1700s, though I have much more research to do and have not confirmed all of the details yet. The French records are free, and you can find them at

Go to the Etat Civil tab, and select Bretteville-en-Saire as the lieu if you are interested. If anyone wants the names of documents and page references where I have found images of the original certificates, let me know, either here or at

One thing I did discover is that there is a hamlet near Brettevile, Hameau Noyon, where members of the family lived in the early 1800s. If you go to Google, and search for Hameau Nogoa, you will find it, though Google has named it incorrectly. Google street view at the end of that road does show the sign 'Hameau Noyon'

A couple of you here mentioned an article about the transportation of a Noyon to Australia. I would be interested in getting further details of that if someone could help.

Many thanks,

Andy Noyon
