I have some information about my German Nolte ancestors which may help:

The German newspaper "Braunschweigischen Anzeigen" of July 12, 1862, (number 168) reports the immigration of Ernst Wilhelm Nolte, his wife Engel Sophe (Fischer), one daughter and four sons, to America.

The oldest son (Ernst Christian August Nolte) remained in Stroit, Germany. His descendants still live in the area.

The second oldest son (Henry Karl Wilhelm Nolte) had emmigrated to America somer years before, to Wisconsin. He married Caroline Korfmaker in Wisconsin in 1860.

The oldest daughter (Johanna Justina Fredrica Nolte) was given a choice: accompany the family or marry and remain in Germany. Being already engaged, she moved up her wedding date. She married another Nolte (Wilhelm Nolte) of Ammensen, a village 4 km up the road. Her descendants
now live in Delligsen and Hanover.
