Elmer V. Nenninger, postmaster of Leopold since Aug. 31, 1953, has received official recognition for efficiency in connection with that work. He was born Sept. 9, 1913 to JOHN H. AND LOUISE RICHT NENNINGER. His grandfather, Charles Nenninger, who came from Germany, was a blacksmith. The postmaster was valedictorian of his eighth grade class, has been a lifelong member of St. John's Catholic Church, and belongs to the Knights of Columbus. His wife, the former Gladys Kathleen Markham, was a daughter of Freeman and Nellie Mabrey Markham. She completed two years of high school and has served as a deputy, or leave replacement, at the post office in Leopold since 1953. As a member of St. John's church, she is an officer in the Legion of Mary and a member of the Christian Ladies Sodality. Their daughter, Patricia Ann, died at the age of 14 following an auto accident. Their other children are: Marilyn Jansen, a registered nurse, who is a certified physician's assistant employed at the Englehart Clinic in Lutesville for 11 years; Clements Charles works with the post office department in St. Louis; Joan Lavern Storz is a homemaker and college student; John David is a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.
