Food for thought, It could be possible for James R. 1857 to have when grown, had relations with a slave woman, the result a mullatto son, Jim/James Neal born 1873. Iv'e been told it was common for the slave woman to tell their kids who their fathers were, white or black. My ggggrandad could have been sold off somewhere. I don't know what my gggrandad looked like, or where he was born, but I could find out what he looked liked. Also Jim/James Neal returned to Sommerville, TN Fayette,Cnty. and lived the remainder of his life there.
