I am trying to find out if anyone out there knows anything about my great-great-grandfather, Thomas Henry Moffatt.
He was supposedly born on 7 Aug 1877 in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland, but there were no births recorded for a Thomas Moffatt between 1875-1880 so he may have been younger. His parents were John Moffatt and Mary Moran, but I do not know whether he had any siblings. The story goes that John died and Mary remarried to a Mr McFadden, by whom she had at least a daughter. Thomas and McFadden didn't get along and Thomas ran away to the Navy. According to his navy records, he joined on 5 Nov 1896 and served until 1908, when he was discharged at Sydney, Australia. He married there in 1909 and died in 1942.
Extra information: He was a presbyterian and was brought up to be a bricklayer. The family home may have been 6 Colbrook St, Cambuslang. His half-sister (daughter of Mary Moran and Mr McFadden) lived at 34 Ice St, Blackburn, Lancashire, England, in the 1890s. Both Thomas' parents were listed as deceased on his marriage certificate in 1909.
I hope somebody know something, I am really lost as to how to get past this brick wall.
