Funeral services for Mr. Robert Arvel "Bob" Mims, age 83 of Buffalo, are set for 2 PM, Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Buffalo. Bro. Larry Morris, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, will officiate the service. Interment will be in the North Creek Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 6 pm until 8 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Walters Buffalo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Arvel “Bob” Mims was born in Houston County, Texas on July 13, 1928 to Robert Samuel and Julia (Luce) Mims. He was raised in Leon County and served his country as a Corporal in the Army/Air Force in Japan. After his service, Mr. Mims worked for Texas Oil Company in Louisiana for 10 years. When he and his family moved to Buffalo, he managed several service stations for G & L Oil Company and then worked for two years for Premiere Oil Company out of Paris, Texas. Following his work in the oil industry, Mr. Mims bought Mims-Spikes Insurance Agency and worked there for nineteen years until his retirement in 1986. He then enjoyed raising and selling horses. Mr. Mims and his wife also spent several years traveling around the United States in their R.V. After finally settling down, Mr. Mims spent time working in his gardens, in which he took great pride. He was very involved in his community, serving on the school board, city council and Soil and Water Conservation B oard.

Mr. Mims was a Charter Member of Bethel Baptist Church. He loved his church very much and gave his full, whole-hearted support to serving in every aspect as a Deacon, choir member and Sunday School teacher.

Mr. Mims passed away Wednesday, June 6 at his home. He is preceded in death by both of his parents; granddaughters, Carmen Dee Oliver and Debbie Lyn Brewer and son-in-law, Don Oliver.

Survivors include wife, LeeAnn Mims of Buffalo; daughters & sons-in-law, Rhonda & Billy Bangs of Montgomery, Hanida Lee Oliver of Buffalo, Shivaun & Will Kent of Kerens and Dixie & Joe Brewer of Buffalo; sisters, Marjorie McAnally of Crockett, Oleta Lee of Lake Limestone and Yvonne Dominy of Centerville; grandchildren, Stephanie Herring, Stacy Doyle, Jill Henson, Jami Gainey, Andy Kent, Adlee Clark, Wade Brewer, Wesley Brewer and Lydia Thornley and sixteen great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wade Brewer, Wesley Brewer, Lance Herring, Andy Kent, Oscar Henson and Nick Gainey. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Bangs, Will Kent, Joe Brewer, Dennis Hartley, Arlis Russell, Gene Pruitt, Nick Samford, Dean Richmond, James M. Henson, Jr., Buddy Spikes, Roy Fowler, Sonny West, James Anders and Louis Webb.
