As part of my on-going research into McOstrich clan, I'd welcome any info/input on the following:
Stanton Hope wrote 20 or more pulp fiction stories for a young boys magazine called Modern Wonder, circa 1930s. Modern Wonders was published by Odham Press, was 16 pp and sold for the grand sum of 2d. Some of his cartoon/pulp stories ( illustrated by E. Hobbard ) were - Salvage of the Scarab 1937, Wild Cargo same year and Scorpion Island in 1938. ALL of the stories featured adventures of two characters Rorky and McOstrich. What ws the connection ? Where did he get the name and why did he use it?
The name McOstrich also appears in one Billy Bunter story - so perhaps there's an old school connection here.
Second point goes to heraldry. In 1868, John Carmichael McOstrich changed his name by royal license and deed poll rights - dropping the McOstrich name so he could inherit the lands and titles and become Baronet Charmichael of Balmedie,. What was the Carmichael/McOstrich connection ? John Carmichael was a merchant in Cork city before going to England to accept the title.
Anything on either of these would be appreciated.
