Classification: Biography
Surnames: Mac Meanmain, Mac Meanman, McMenomy, McMenomey, McMenamy, McMenamin
I would like to find my lost relatives in Ireland or around the world. Any help in locating them or learning more about my ancestors would be most greatly appreciated.

Donegal Ancestors:

1. Edward B. McMenomy
- - stayed in Donegal

Spouse: Margaret McKeever

- stayed in Donegal

Children of #1:

2. Edward B. McMenomy
- born 1819 in Donegal
- emigrated to America via New York, then to Rosemount, Minnesota
- started farm in Minnesota
- built first store in Rosemount, Minnesota
- sold Irish Linens in the Southern states during the winter, by this he earned the money for his sistersÂ’ passage to America

spouse: Ann McGill
- born in Donegal, but did not meet Edward until they were in New York
- Ann McGill was literate, unlike most Irish immigrants of the time, supposedly because in the area of Donegal that she was from, the Catholics were allowed to attend the British schools – a rare thing for the time period.

2. Bridget McMenomy
- born 1839 in Donegal
- emigrated to America -- Rosemount, Minnesota
- spouse: Thomas Dowds

2. McMenomy, (female)
- spouse: Murray
- emigrated to America - Minnesota

2. McMenomy, Mary
- spouse: McGinley
- emigrated to America – Minnesota

2. McMenomy, Ann
- spouse: Johnston
- emigrated to America – stayed in New York

2. McMenomy, (female)
- spouse: McNellis
- stayed in Ireland
- her children (or some of them) emigrated to America

2. McMenomy, Winnifred
- spouse: John McGuinness
- stayed in Donegal
- at least one of her children emigrated to America
- children:
- 3. Winnifred McGuinness
- born 1833 in Killybegs, Donegal
- married James McMonagal in Ireland
- emigrated to America – Saint Paul, Minnesota

2. McMenomy, (female)
- spouse: McLafferty
- stayed in Ireland
- however, the McLaffertyÂ’s of Rosemount, Minnesota are related to us somehow

2. McMenomy, (female)
- spouse: Casey
- emigrated to America – Minnesota
- *** This McMenomy may not have been a sister, but a more distant relation, there is some confusion here as to whether there were 7 or 8 sisters.

This is the information on my Donegal ancestors. Except where I have stated, I do not know if the sisters that emigrated met their husbands in Ireland or America. Also, I do not know where in co. Donegal they were from. Of course, the surname spellings that I have here may not be consistent with the spellings they used in all places. As most of Donegal was Irish-Gaelic speaking at the time, they may have likely been pronouncing the Irish-Gaelic versions of their names. Furthermore, they were probably illiterate in Irish-Gaelic and English due to the social/economic/political circumstances of the time. It is therefore highly likely that these surname spellings were given to them upon immigration.
