Lockport Pastor Dies While On Way To Bury Rev. Sutphen
The Rev. Alexander McGaffin, D.D., acting pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Lockport, died suddenly in Buffalo yesterday afternoon while on the way to Cleveland to officiate at the funeral of the Rev. Paul Sutphen, D.D. Stricken with a heart attack while in the New York Central station, Dr. McGaffin was removed by taxicab to the residence of Mrs. Risley Tucker, 313 Summer street, he having been an old and intimate friend of the Tucker family, and expired there within an hour.
Dr. McGaffin and Dr. Sutphen had been co-pastors for six years at the Church of the Covenant in Cleveland and between them existed a friendship of many years standing.
Dr. McGaffin, who was 59 years old and who was reputed to have one of the most brilliant minds in the Presbyterian clergy, was appointed pastor at Lockport last February to succeed the Rev. Stewart M. Robinson, who resigned to take a charge at Elizabeth, N. J.
