Tami, I'm back doing McDougall/McEachern research and just found your post.

Alexander and Janet's family that went to Lanark, Ontario are an entirely different family from ours.

Duncan McDougall who married Margaret McEachern was born on Islay. I strongly believe that he was the son of John McDougall and Janet McCallum of Shangart, Kilmeny parish.

Here are the baptisms of their daughters:
McDougall,John, McCallum,Catherine, Shanghart, Margaret, 21,Aug,1812,
McDougall,John, McCallum,Catherine, Shanghart, Mary, 18,Dec,1812
McDougall,John, McCallum,Catherine, Shanghart, Catherine, 30,Apr,1814
McDougall,John, McCallum,Catherine, Shanghart, Anne, 18,Sep,1816
McDougall,John, McCallum,Catherine, Shanghart, Margaret, 4,Mar,1821

Male baptismal records don't seem to have survived, but I would not be surprised if they had sons during this time as well. I suspect that their sons were Alexander, Duncan, Hugh and Neil, based on the 1841 census where they were living with the widow Catherine at Shingart.

John McDougal was still a tenant at Shengart in 1836

On the 1841 census, Duncan and Margaret McDougall with their oldest children were at Shingart farm as well as Alexander and Mary McNiven and their family.

Duncan and Margaret had their first 2 Canadian children at Chinguacousy, Peel, Ontario, Donald in 1845 and Catherine in 1847 but by the time Ann was born in 1848 they were on the farm in Erin.

My mother grew up knowing her grandmother Catherine McDougall who married Donald McEachern (also of Islay).

I do have a lot more information, if you want it.
