Thanks for the information. I have not started my research in Scotland yet, so any information is greatly appreciated. I would not have thought to look in Inverness for records of Arisaig. I am looking for information on my family and the history of the area. Why they came to Nova Scotia, who recruited them, etc..J.M. Bumsted has a pretty good book "The People's Clearance 1770-1815". It states in 1791 four vessels left Scotland for British North America from Port Glasgow, Greenock, and Fort William. Two of these ships came into Pictou, Nova Scotia with 650 passengers, one the Dunkeld and the other name unknown. My ancestor, Donald MacEachern, would have been on that ship with his wife Christian and at least one child-Ronald. I do not know if there is a passenger list for these ships. There was references to these people in the Scottish newspapers "Edinburgh Evening Courant" and "Caledonian Mercury". Do you know if there is a copy of these newspapers for 1791 anywhere?
I am told that the site Scotlands people is a good place to start seaching. Do you know how far back the records go? If my family left Scotland in 1791 and they only have records after 1800 I do not know if this is a good place for me to start.
Thanks for your time and help. Donna
