I was glad to get your reply. My ancestor is Benj. McDonald(b.abt 1746 in either Scotland or possibly Northern Ireland) who came to America and settled near Winchester, VA. He died in 1827. I come down through his oldest son, James. who was born near Winchester. Either James or his son Moses moved to Harrison Co., VA (now WV) as Moses's 2 sons were born in Harrison Co. Benjamin (1st) and Margaret McDonald had 6 children (SARAH b.1766,d.1849; JAMES b.1767,d.1863; REBECCA b.1769 d.1865; MARGARET b.1772 d.1817; BENJAMIN b.1774 d.1856; ANN b.1776 d. 1859). Sarah married Jesse Pugh - they had 8 children. Most went to Washington Co.,OH. Son Jesse Pugh staby in Hampshire Co.. James married 1st Mary Cather, 2nd Tabitha Hustead. He had a total of 17 children. I'm not sure where he died, but his son (my line) Moses ended up in Harrison Co.,VA (now WV). Rebecca (Rebekah) married John Caudy. They had 4 children. At least 2 of the 4 stayed in Hampshire Co.. Margaret married George Smith. they have no known children. They were only married 3 years -- I thought she may have died in childbirth. Benjamin (2nd) married Margaret Hiett. They had 11 children. Ann married Robert Pugh,Jr.. I don't have any children listed with them. In the Book of Marriages in Frederick Co., VA Ann is listed as Margaret so I am assuming the her full name was Ann Margaret. Benjamin (1st) married a 2nd time to Massey Wilkenson Nixon Reed. They had one child, GABRIEL (b.1789, d. 1874). Gabriel married Catherine Kackley. They had 5 children.
We visited the Hampshire Co. area and found lots of Pughs, Hietts, Kackleys. I don't know if any of this helps. I have some information on Benjamin's children, but most is on James, my direct line. I would be interested in what you have found. There are sooooo many McDonalds!
