Dear Joyce, Our surname was spelled that way when they came from Ireland, but my fathr-in-law changed it and added the extra e in it. My husband's gret frandfather came from Ireland. We don't know were in Ireland. He was born in 1818 in Ireladn and died July 30, 1894 in Ashippun Wi. He married (1) Bridget Murphy in 1836 in Ireland. He married Julia Byrnes in 1848. His marriage to bridget produced two girls Mary b. in Ireland 1841 d. 1920 and bridget born in Perth Canada 1845 died 1913 in Ashippun Wi. Buried in St. Catherine's cemetery in Mapleton Wi. We live in the original homstead which is over one hundred and fifty years old. We heard there was a brother that was lost in New York. Ther was also an Elizabeth McAleavy b. 5-10-1829 in Ireland d.6-17-1895 in Ashippun Wi. which we think is a sister to Michael.
