Mrs. Clarissa Oaks Dead.

“Mrs. Clarissa Oaks, aged 83 years, died at her home on the old homestead, in Vernon, on Tuesday, after an illness extending over four weeks. The immediate cause of her death was dropsy.
The venerable lady enjoyed excellent health all her life and was until a few months ago as active about her home and ‘arm as a person a score of years younger. She and her husband [Gorham-marriage #2, first to Giles Sisson CASE] came to this community about thirty years ago and filed on a homestead in Vernon township. They were among the pioneers of this section and the deceased enjoyed a wide acquaintance and the universal esteem and respect of all who knew her. Her kind ways and happy temperament endeared her to all and her death is deeply mourned.
Deceased was born in Ohio and married there her husband who death occurred twelve years ago. Two sons and two daughters survive her—G.C. OAKS of Athabasca Landing, Sask. [should be Alberta Province of Canada]; William OAKS, Roosevelt, Minn.; Mrs. Capitola UMPHREY [should be HUMPHREYS] of Brocket [ND]; Mrs. Lutilla CHASE, Rutland, Ohio.
The funeral was held from the late home of the deceased and was conducted by Pastor Finlayson of the Presbyterian church. A service in the city [Park River] was held in the Methodist church. Internment was made at Memorial park.
Mrs. William OAKS [Rosanna Russell formerly of Rutland, Ohio] of Roosevelt, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. UMPHREY [HUMPHREYS] of Brocket were present at the funeral.”
