Job Male was born 1846 in Colbourne, Ontario, Canada. His parents were Ambrose Male and Charity Mix. Ambrose was born 1810-1811 in Kingsbury, Somerset, England (many Male families from this area including several Ambrose and Job) and he died 7/4/1883 and the death records filed in Northumberland, Colbourne indicate he was 72 years old a farmer and born in England and cause was heart disease and age, physician was W.A. Willoughby and relative was Charles W. Male, Blacksmith Colbourne (this is my ancestor), and registered 8/2/1883 and religion was Canada Methodist. Ambrose immigrated to Canada before 1820 and his father’s name was also Ambrose. The family immigrated sometime before 1820 as there is a land record for Ambrose Male; also in the family was at least another son (brother to Ambrose) John born 1819 and he married and his wife died in 1893 and the obituary is listed as Mrs. John Male pioneer family of Colborne. Charity Mix born about 1812 and died 3/29/1894. Her father was John Mix born 1774 and married in 1799 to Unis Gaffield who was born 1784 in Saratoga, NY. The Mix family were royalists and went to Canada after Revolutionary War. Unis’s family was located in Vermont and NY and there is a story about her father (Nathaniel Gaffield) being captured by Indian’s and then brought up by French family. He is also listed as one of the founders of the Colbourne area. Charity was the youngest of six kids, 4 boys 2 girls. Ambrose and Charity also had six kids – Rachel born 1832, Maria born 1840, Ambrose and John born 1841, Job born 1846, and Charles H. born 1850.

Job Male born 1846 married his second wife (his first wife was the sister of his second and I believe she died in childbirth) Elizabeth “Libby” Scott born 1852 and died 1931. They married at the First Methodist Church of Rochester on 6/10/1867 and it was one of the few marriage records that survived a fire. I believe that Job had an Uncle that immigrated to the Rochester, NY area and the family went back and forth between Colbourne and Rochester (there was a ferry). Charles Male also visited his Uncle there and immigrated to the Rochester area when he was in his 20’s (this is my family). Libby Scott’s mother was Louisa and her brother was Walter. Job and Libby had the following kids – Job born 1865 (must be first wife), Ida born 1873, Madie born 1878, Claire born 1880, and Hazel born 1883. Job died in 1932 and Job, Libby and their son Job are buried in Salem Cemetery, Northumberland, Canada.

Ambrose Male, son of Ambrose and Charity was a widower and on 8/27/1878 he married Harriett Hawley (age 21) of Colborne, daughter of Charles Hawley and Harriett Mix and witnessed by Mary Hunter and W.H. Brown. Ambrose was listed as a farmer.
