William McGaha (Magaha?) - b 1800 va/nc

I’m looking for further information on this McGaha family which I found in the 1850 census of Cotton Wood TWP, Cumberland Co, IL:

William McGaha – 50 m NC or VA
Catherine McGaha – 38 f OH
Joseph McGaha – 22 m OH
Benjamin McGaha – 17 m OH
Alexander McGaha – 13 m OH
Emily A McGaha – 10 f OH
William A McGaha – 8 m OH
George McGaha – 6 m OH

William (sr) is my 4xgreat grandfather via his oldest son Joseph. I had trouble reading the census about his state of birth: it looked most like NA. I would like to know where he was from and where he lived in Ohio. Apparently the family moved sometime between 1844 and 1850 to Cotton Wood, Cumberland Co, IL.

However, while I have found Joseph & his family in the 1860 census in Douglas Co, IL (the index maker lists the name as McGata) and Benjamin & his family in Cumberland Co, IL, I have not been able to find the rest of the family in 1860. Where are they?

In 1870 I have only been able to find William (jr)’s family in Atchison Co, MO and youngest son George in Nemaha, NE. His mother is living with him along with three children whose last name appears to be Huld. Maybe this are his sister’s children?

In 1880 I have found my Joseph & his family in Bates Co, MO and his brother William’s family in Fremont, IA. Where’s the rest of the family?

When and where did William (sr) die?
Who are his parents?
Anyone have information on William (sr)’s wife, Catherine Honey ?
Anyone related to William’s other children (Benjamin, Alexander, Emily, William jr, George)? Or have information on them?

Any help on any of these family members would be most appreciated.
