Hello, I just checked all the threads on the Luna board to date here and did not really catch any making reference to, or seeking information on, Lunas hailing from the island of PR. It's not a super common name there, so I am hoping to connect with anyone who may have any related connections. I am currently putting together a more thorough family lineage (waiting on dear old dad for more specifics at the moment) and would like to take it back as far as possible. I am just getting started on this genealogy thing.
The gist of our background (as I know it today):
My dad is Oscar Luna, born 10-28-1953. He grew up in Comerio, PR (still trying to determine if he was born there). I found basic records here on Ancestry on my grandmother, Fidela Lugo. My grandfather (deceased) was Carlos Luna. Their children (have requested everyone's proper names), but as I know them: Nereida, Elsa, Carmen, & Lucy. They have another brother & sister and their names escape me at the moment. My dad came to NYC shortly after the big migrations from the island in the 50's (hello, West Side Story! *smile*). His/our family settled in the Bronx. In the later 90's they started taking off to Northern California (Sacramento area). There is still some family in PR. My dad married my mom, Milagros Colon (from the Santurce, PR area). She still lives in the Bronx. Her mom was Petra Rubio. Dad unknown at this time. He died while she was very young in PR. Her siblings: Angel, Lisa, & a 1/2 sister, Daisy Cintron
As far as my immediate family goes: I am the oldest, Wanda Milagros, b. 11-3-74 (am referred to by family as 'Wandy' & by friends/outer family 'Luna'), have a sister, Cathy (no middle name), b. 9-14-76, a brother, Oscar Jr. (no middle name), b. 8-26-1976. We all have small children. There is also a 1/2 sister, Amanda (middle?), b. 2-2 (later 80's), no kids yet. We were all born in the Bronx. I lived in the NYC area till 1997, moved to Tampa Bay, FL, and am now in Michigan as of 2010. In all my years I have yet to meet another non-family Luna with the exception of a coworker in Florida. Her lineage was Mexico-based. I really don't think ours is, but you never know.
Thanks for looking. Hope this post proves itself fruitful. My email is email@example.com
