The mother of my g-grandfather was Francisca Lizana.
I come from Puerto Rico, but my ancestors have hopped all the way fro New Orleans to my Island. We always believed that the Lizana family came from Cataluña near the city of Gerona. Was I surprised to find that they came from Bordeaux and that the name was Basque, meaning ash tree.
As I have seen surfing the net, it seems that theyre are two big centers for the name: Chile and the souther coast of the United States. This is one of those surprises that you find.
The name of my g-great grandmother was Frnacisca Lizana she was the daughter of Clara Garnier and Manuel María de Lizana y de Leon (his father was Blas Honoré de Lizana married to Francisca de Leon).
They were living at the time in what is now the Dominican Republic. True to the Caribbean Francisca married Louis de Lassise Baudin, born in New Orleans. (There were Lassise in New Orleans, but I believe if there are any left they are McNespy or something like that - have to look more)
