MANSFIELD: Lillian Mae Layfield, 73, of Mansfield, OH passed away January 13, 2014 at her home.
Born on August 8, 1940 in Republic, OH, she was the daughter of Burt C. and Loretta (Forney) Smith. Lillian worked for Essex in Lexington and later worked for Hi Stat in Mansfield.
She was a stubborn lady, very set in her ways, but she remained a fighter with a sense of humor until the very end.
Lillian was extremely caring and would reach out to anyone in need.
She was a member of Lincoln Heights Baptist Church.
Surviving are her children, Gary Layfield, Rickey Layfield, and Jeanette Layfield, all of Mansfield, OH; grandchildren, Ladeana Wright and Holly Layfield; great-grandchildren, Dominik, Devin, Daegan, Delaney, and Draiden Layfield, all of Wooster, Ohio; brother, Wayne Smith of Norwalk, OH; and sister, Velma Baker of Ft. Worth, TX.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ervin Layfield; parents; grandson, Joseph Layfield; sister, Shirley Williams; and brother, William Smith.
Family and friends may visit from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield.
Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Mike Wilson.
Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery at a later date.
