I have also been told the Layfield line may have originated in France when three brothers, Hugenonts, fled because of religious persecution. An August 21, 1939 letter written by J.C.Layfield of Richland, Georgia, to Georgia Layfield Dunlop of Chipley (now Pine Mountian) Georgia, states the brothers fled to England, Whales, and Switzerland. He states in letter that theLayfield clan first landed in Baltimore. Maryland, and then moved to Hancock, Baldwin, Jones and later Taylor and Harris Counties in Georgia. I have been unable to validate any of this however and it was stated in the letter that his Grandfathers Bible and records had been lost in a fire. Can you give me dates on your ancestors you mentioned?
