ZANESVILLE -- Harry William "Bill" Lavy, 58, of Zanesville, Ohio passed away at 12:15 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 26, 2007) at Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care Morrison House.
He was born Aug. 10, 1949, in Zanesville, Ohio son of the late Howard B. Lavy and Hazel Neeld Lavy - Wilson - Brock.
Mr. Lavy was the manager of the National Road Beer Dock, and previous owner of Raile's Flowers and Allie's Antiques. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. During his military career, he received his training as a drug and alcohol counselor.
He was the co-founder of The Ronna Bucci and Dr. Charles Dietz Art Endowment Fund; member of Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project - Z.A.A.P. and served on the City of Zanesville Design and Review Board by mayoral appointment.
By his own desire to beautify downtown Zanesville, Bill inspired the first Miracle on Main Street, (Christmas lights & Parade) which he also served as its chairman.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Lavy and an infant brother, Jimmy Lavy.
He leaves his daughter, Allie (Rob) Smith; granddaughters, Katelynn Vaughn and Allisha Ritterbeck, all of Zanesville; sisters, Ruth (Rex) VanDyne of Cambridge, Ohio, and Sally (Neal) Baughman of Dresden, Ohio; brothers, Howard B. (Norma) Lavy, Jr. of Pearl City, Hawaii, Jerry (Bonnie) Lavy and Bob (Debbie) Wilson, all of Zanesville, OHIO; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill was a kind, loving and generous person leaving behind many loyal friends.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Fr. Immanuel Bertrand officiating, Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012 at the Bryan & Snider Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave.
Private burial will take place at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Zanesville, Ohio with V.F.W. Post No. 1058 conducting full military rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronna Bucci and Dr. Charles Dietz Art Endowment Fund, c/o the Muskingum County Community Foundation; Genesis Hospice and Pallitive Care, or the Zanesville Chapter of A Special Wish Foundation. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
