my grandparents and my parents talked Slovonia (sp?)
I am going to try and answer all your ?'s on this note.

I do have a copy of my grandfather George Kuranko, Sr.
S.S. application. my father was George Kuranko, Jr.
neither of them had a middle name.
on the S.S. application he list his last age as 64, then his birthdate and then"Cebini" (Czfcnoslovakia)
(I am not sure if the "C" is a really letter "C" or it's a "("
then it's zr or maybe it's za or ZFC then above it was ?40or H-O or m-o then it continutes on with slovakia.
this app. was dated 22 july 1937 and signed of course by him.
yes, this app. is the ss-5 form.

I have never heard or found any information that he applied for naturalize papers. when anyone in the family would ask about the "old country" and his life...he would get very mad at us and tell us not to ask nor talk about old country. he acted like he was afraid someone was going to come and get him or ? a secret he took to his death with him.

I did find at one time a couple of Kurankos that came to US but they went to NY and apparently stayed there.
as far as I know my grandfather went straight to Pa to work in the coal mines. He was 17 when he came to this county.

He met my grandmother in Pa...but maybe the two families knew each other in the "old country". or maybe he just met her in PA, as her father was a coal minner in the same town.
