William J. Koedam, 76, Midway, formerly of Northwest Iowa, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at his sons home in Lone Tree.

Memorial services were: 9:30 a.m. today, Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Lone Tree. Additional memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, Calvin Christian Reform Church, LeMars.

The Rev. Jason Pittman officiated. Honorary casket bearers were his grandchildren, Angie Miller, Amy Hartman, Sarah Mongar, Aaron Carlson, Jeremy Koedam, Kristen Rolfes, Kelli Rolfes and Korey Rolfes.

A memorial has been established for the Iowa City Hospice and the choir fund of the United Presbyterian Church, Bull Shoals, Ark.

Mr. Koedam was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Leota, Minn., the son of Jonas and Cornelia Van Nieuwenhuizen Koedam. He married Elnora Olivier on Dec. 29, 1952, in Corsica, S.D.

He and his wife lived in LeMars for 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1951-53. He was a member of the American Legion and the Christian Motorcycle Association. He was a Cadet counselor and a member of the Color and Honor Guard. He enjoyed woodworking and bowling and was an all-around handyman. He had worked as a power lineman for Northwest Iowa Power Co-op and also worked for the Bureau of Reclamation. He was a part-time electrician, working for the telephone company as well as installing and fixing garage door openers. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Debbie Seigel and husband John of Omaha, Neb. and Donna Rolfes and husband Mike of Alton; a son, Doug Koedam and wife Clarine of Lone Tree; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley Koedam and wife Janice of Leota; a sister, Annie Bolt of Edgerton, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Marie Koedam of Luverne, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert and one brother in infancy; a granddaughter, Amy Carlson; and a brother-in-law, Rollie Bolt.
