I am looking to piece together my own family history and can provide the following:
My last name is Corey, but I have been told by several older cousins that our name was changed at Ellis Island from either Khoury, or Khouri to it's current form as they traveled from Syria. My grandfathers name was Samuel Mike Corey. He was married to Mary (Bettor) Corey. Their children were John Corey (no children that I'm aware of), Michael Corey (children David, Michelle, Darlene), Joseph Corey (children Robert, and Jean), Bessie Corey-Thomas (children Eugene, Marion, Edward, Norman, Carol), Thomas Corey (children Thomas ---me---, Stephen), and Lenore Corey-Willey (children Donald, David, and Claire).
From what I understand, they came through Ellis Island around 1905, and settled in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. My grandparents Sam and Mary moved to Erie, Pennsylvania around 1950. Thomas, Bessie, and Lenore all moved to Erie as well. John moved to Florida. Michel and Joseph stayed in New Kensington. Samuel died in 1954, Mary in 1956. My father and all his siblings have died since.
I am desperately trying to piece together my family's history as I now have reason to believe I have another sibling who has surfaced recently, but died suddenly, and left two daughters with no history whatsoever on the paternal side, as this man (allegedly fathered by my father, Thomas Corey), was given up at birth for adoption.
One additional bit of information that I can provide is that my great-great-great grandfather was supposedly a priest in Syria.
If you are able to shed any light on this using the information I have provided, I would be forever grateful.
Thomas E. Corey
