Look for "", who does not have an address there anymore. We are working on the same family. I must meet him; we both have a great deal of information to share. He seems to be one generation further back than me, but I have missing dates and places to information he place on this site, plus additional branches.

My records have some 1,200 names of Kembles and Kimbles who were originally Kemble and a few Kimballs [Parsippany, NJ area only] and their 300 - 400 colleratal surnames.

My Kemble came from England. Two published books say from Devonshire, however Devonshire is County Devon on the southern coast of the United Kingdom. County Devon has two major seaports both today and in colonial times, which are Plymouth and Torbay. I believe the Devonshire reference is referring to the place of embarkment and not residence. I believe my ancesors came from the north such as County Wilts (Wiltshire) or Gloucester County or nearby surrounding area.

I believe they either landed in New York City or Philadelphia, then settled in northern New Jersey. Possible arrival time in America would be between 1760 -1780.

The only story I have about the three brothers came to America from Devonshire. The author is interested in only one of these brothers, so no more is known about them other than one settles in the west (west of what and this was colonial America before the war). The one brother is married and has five sons. One sons died on the voyage. Three sons do service in the Revolutionary War on the side of the Americans (2nd Sussex County Militia -- I believe). One is killed. Another is either killed or comes home and dies "shortly thereafter" (define? 2 weeks, or 2 months, or 2 years?). This was written a hundred years after the events. The third son who survived; moved to Virginia and never returned to New Jersey. I have learned what his name was John Kemble and he was supoosed to have settled in either Madison or Gladstone, Virginia.

The fourth son, "remained on the home proper" and became a physcian. His name is William Kemble and the first Kemble to be named in both the books that contain information about my early family.

After 32 years of research, I have not learned any more about the early than I knew after the first five years, but that was before the internet.

I who someone reads all this and can help me and I will help anyone I can.

Sincerely yours,
James A. Crowley Kemble
