Hi Lynn,

Andrew was Russian Orthodox and spoke Russian, not high Russian. I think I recall that he did go to school for a while but had to quit after his mother died. My parents, sister and I lived with my grandparents until I was abt. 5. We lived in Scranton for a couple of years and then came back to Jermyn where I lived until 1960. I've been in Vestal ever since. Too bad we never knew abt each other when your were in Ithaca, 45 min. away.

Andrew was a jack of all trades, plumbing, carpentry. He was always doing something.
He was very concerned abt. his appearance. I remember his straw hat, I wore it in a school play once. It has disappeared but I do have a derby of his.

My mother said he was always willing to help out his neighbors out. Although he never owned a car, he built a 2 car garage on the property, not sure of what year but I know it was there in the 1940's.

I recall going with him to a neighbor's to have a newspaper read to him, don't recall if Russian or English. He could write some in English. He corrected his children's English if they mispronounced words. I recall that his children did not have the local accent. The house he built is one of the nicest in town: pocket doors, double living room, stained glass windows, large kitchen, bay windows.

Do you have access to any of Theresa's docs, birth cert, death cert, obit.

Coincidentally, the sister of my mother's next door neighbor used to live in Ansonia. His niece is married to a Russian priest there also.

Regards,
Karen
