Julia Wojnowski and her two sisters Helen and Pauline in the early 1900’s at different times. The girls stayed with their Uncle Anthony and Aunt Katie Jozefczyk who in 1900 resided at 321 Third Street in Scranton, PA, in 1910 lived in Fifficktown/South Fork PA. Anthony was born in June 1855 in Poland and had a sister, Maryanna and maybe a brother Jacob; although Jacob could be Anthony’s son that I have not been able to verify. Anthony’s wife Catherine or Katie was also born in Poland. They immigrated to the United States in 1891. They supposedly had 10 children in which 6 survived. The children’s names were Mary born April 1890, Joseph born September 1892, Amelia Born April 1900, John born September 1882 and Anna born 1885.

John married Stella Proleiko on August 7, 1906 in South Fork, PA. Anna married Michael Mizak on January 8, 1907 in Johnstown, PA. Joseph Jr. married an Anna born in New York. In 1920 Joseph and Anna resided in Erie, PA at 1104 20th Street and had two children as of 1920 named Emil born in 1917 and Josie born in 1920 or thereabout.

Jacob and Amelia Josefecick, had a daughter Katherine she married a Joe Burnett on October 27, 1909 in South Fork, she was 21 and he was 28. Amelia's maiden name was Tolpolski. Jacob and Amelia had another daughter Annie who married a Josef Machnik on February 18, 1919 in South Fork, PA.

I have information on a John and Annie Youhoschick; their son Joe married a Mary Bumbara on January 11, 1912 in Johnstown, PA.

These are the variations of the surname “Jozefczyk” I have found in my research from the above referenced people: Jozefczyk, Josefczyk, Youzefscik, Yuhuszesik, Josefecick, Josefchik and the surname means Joseph in Polish.

Helen Wojnowski actually entered into the United States with her Aunt Katie under the name of one of Katie‘s daughters. Since the United States would not allow the sick or the invalid into the United States and her daughters ticket was purchased, Helen was allowed to go instead.

If you have any information on these families please e-mail me. Thank you.
