Finding a place of death - Help needed please

Hi. On receiving photographs of an ancestors grave, it was discovered another unknown relative is in the plot also.
This person was born 1862 died 1874. His name was Robert Johnston with a possible middle initial of W.

The other members of the family have the name Johnson on their tomb stones. Therefore this leads me to believe he was not an immediate member of the JOHNSON family. My Uncle dropped the T from his name for some unknown reason.
However his sister Martha married a Johnston and we do believe this child, Robert was her 4th child. She is listed on the census as having 3 living children out of 4.

After receiving 2 letters from the Archives Dept in NY stating no records of his death found, i'm not sure where to look now for a death. I wanted the death certificate to confirm who his parents were.

The family plot is in the Green-Wood Cemetery NY. Would a person have to die in that area to buried there or would it have been possible for him to have died elsewhere and buried with what we think is his Uncles family?

I got so excited in finding this little boy only to have hit another brick wall, so frustrating.

Any help or even advice on finding his place of death would be most appreciated. I am in the UK, so its not easy to just pop down to the archives office :-)

Kind regards Janette (UK)
