BUCYRUS: Helen M. (Iceman) White, age 90, formerly of rural Shelby, Ohio died Sunday, May 2, 2010 at AlterCare of Bucyrus in Bucyrus, Ohio.
Helen was born January 9, 1920 in Blooming Grove Township, Richland County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jay and Nellie (Esbenshade) Iceman.
She graduated from Shiloh High School in 1938, where she was involved in the glee club, dramatics, journalism and athletics. That same year she married Wilbur H. White and the lived in the Shelby area for the next 64 years.
Helen was an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Shelby where she was a member of the Miriam Circle. She and her husband enjoyed traveling through the Amish country of Ohio, as well as most of the states of the United States. She also enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, quilting and sewing.
Helen is survived by her sons, Wilbur E. (Judy) White of Bellevue, Ohio and Roger (Joan) White of Missoula, Montana; daughters, Ann (Doug) Hedrick of Shelby, Ohio, Mary (Joe) Platt of Bucyrus, Ohio and Susan (James) Rabold of Los Alamos, New Mexico; 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, sisters, Miriam (Don) Ritchie and Donna Jean Iceman, both of Ashland, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Dorotha Hockenshilt of Shelby and Dorothy Iceman of Cookeville, Tennessee; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur H. White in 2002; her brothers, Harry and Lester Iceman; and a granddaughter, Marlaina White.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m Saturday from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Joe Platt will officiate with interment in Little London Cemetery, Shelby. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
