Like you I just noticed your post while trawling through the web. It would appear that we too are related ! I have quite a lot of info on my 2x great grandfather Rev George MacFie; Born in Glasgow (Barony District) 1st Oct (baptized 4th Oct) 1789. Parents Alexander McFie, a weaver in Calton Glasgow and Mary Sinclair. Birth witnessed by Alexander Banantine and Thomas Whitlaw.
Educated at Glasgow University. Matriculated 1808. Taught for some years. Licensed by the presbytery of Brechin 1828. Assistant at Yetholine for short time. Ordained by Presbytry of Northumberland 02 Jul 1828 and inducted to Church of Birdhopecraig, where he was the 9th minister (1st to serve in New Kirk). There until 11 June 1837.
Came to Sydney Aus. on "Portland" arriving 3 Dec 1837 with 8 ministers and 4 probationers under the auspices of Dr John Dunmore Lang. Went to Penrith for about 6 months then Moronga, Bergalia, in 1838 taking in Bega and surrounding districts. At that time he lived at Bergalia but as there was no church he travelled from station to station preaching, marrying and baptizing. He was there until 1842 when he was called to Portland Head and Pitt Town where he was inducted to Ebenezer Church by Presbytery of Windsor but he continued to visit Moronga until 1859 as there was no other minister.
In April 1833 he had married Eliza(beth) Hutcheson, youngest daughter of John Hutcheson and Susannah Smith of Fulbar, Renfrew. They had 6 children. Rev George died 17 Dec 1869, at "Kegworth" Petersham where they went after the great flood of 1867, leaving the parish to his colleague and successor, Rev David Moore. Interred in Balmain Cemetery. Eliza died at "Birdhopcraig" near Woodford on 22 June 1899.
My great grandfather William Thomas Poole married Mary Sinclair MacFie 21 June 1867 at Pitt Town Manse NSW(Rev George officiated). William T Went to work at an early age and worked as a contractor on railways. Arrived on Marion in South Australia in 1851, shipwrecked (off Adelaide) and penniless. Engaged in railway contracting in New South Wales including work on Lapstone Zig Zag. District surveyor for City of Sydney. 1868 he purchased an estate, Hampden Hall, in the Macleay district where he pioneered sugar growing; erected a sugar mill at Kempsey on the Macleay River NSW. The sugar cane crop failed , apparently due to frost, and they turned to raising cattle. He was reputed to have employed "Kanahas" from Pacific Islands (presumably the only time in Australian history). In partnership with a man called Palmer he had bought 100acres from Mr Phelps 1868; later sold to Mr Verge 1873, he then transferred to Fiji. Vice president of National Association of 1891, president in 1892, Prominent Member of Loyal Orange Institution; Deputy Grand Master in 1882. Visited England in 1885.

Member of Legislative Assembly for South Sydney
18 Nov 1880 to dissolution of Parliament 25 Nov 1882
then from 18 Dec 1882 to 4 Oct 1885
Local Government Activity
Alderman at Redfern from 1891 until 1900. Mayor for 1895 until 1896.

Born 12 Oct 1828 in Fenny Stratford (Christened 28 Aug 1831 in Pitstone Bucks) Son of Daniel Cluttenbuck Poole, farmer, and his wife Eliza Quiddington. Married (1) Emma Mary Slemmings on 31 December 1853 at Sydney and they had 2 daughters and 3 sons. Married (2) Mary Sinclair Macfie on 21 June 1867 at Pitt Town and they had 4 daughters (including my grandmother Mary Macleay Robertson ne. Poole) and 2 sons. My grandmother came on a trip to Scotland 1903 (I think)met and married my grandfather William Robertson a distant cousin through his mother Mary Muir Hutcheson, daughter of John Hutcheson(b.1812) who was the grandson of John Hutcheson of Fulbar(b.1746), who was the brother of Eliza Hutcheson (wife of Rev George)!!!
I recently visited the area of Ballachuan on Seil Island Argyll, where Rev George's mother Mary Sinclair was born 15 Apr 1756, she married Alexander MacFie (b.1 Oct 1755 at Hill House Rothesay Isle of Bute), a weaver in Calton,Glasgow on 2 Nov 1788 in Barony,Glasgow. I hope this is of use and would be happy to elaborate should you wish.
Norman Robertson
