Gardiner Greene Hubbard II was the son of Charles Eustis (a prominment Boston lawyer) and Caroline Dennie (Tracy) Hubbard; Born in Boston,MA April 19, 1878. He graduated from Harvard in 1900 and spent three years in Paris at the Beaux-Arts, studying architecture. He then opened an office in New York City. He had an early general interest in aviation and in 1909 he was focused on designing and constucting a monoplane. He went up to Baddeck in Nova Scotia during the fall and winter of 1909-1910 to visit Alexander G. Bell and to construct his concept monoplane. The "Mike" monoplane was built by the Canadian Aerodrome Company and flown twice, once by Hubbard. GGH II was a first cousin of Mabel Bell and the nephew of Gardiner Greene Hubbard who was force behind the Bell System and the American Telegraph & Telephone Company.
