I am trying to identify a Jenkes relative of Elizabeth Cushing Howland (1771-1847) who married Jeremiah Russell (1764-1843). In a letter written by Jeremiah in Feb 24 1811 to his father John (1737-1813) he wrote
"On Thursday past I was at Hallowell[just south of Augusta,ME] and dined at Judge Dummers where I had the pleasure of seeing your neighbor Salisbury[1810 census South District,Providence,RI John Salisbury] who informed me that sister Gladdings[Sarah Russell 1780-1851;m Benjamin Gladding] has some talk of coming down with him. I really wish she had for I am anxious to see some of my relations down in this wooded world. She likewise informed me of the death of Betey’s Aunt Jenkes. You will please to acquaint Betey’s relations of this."
I think I may have identified the Aunt Jenkes:
Amity Harris who married Henry Jenckes (1735-1803). Amity died 5 Feb 1811 Smithfield, R.I.
However I have been unable to connect either Amity or her husband Henry to Elizabeth Howland's line.
