Laurel, if you are still looking at this thread I may have an answer to your question as to why the children may not have traveled to America. In those days, when the wife died unless the husband was well established with property and land the child were often sent to another member of the family to be looked after until the father was either established or married again. Possibly due to the fact that he went to America (which was a huge undertaking in those days), it may have been difficult after a point to bring the children over. Either that or they eventually came with another relative.

My feeling is though that this is that info that you have seen is not about a previous marriage of Willam Hoge born in 1660. If you look at the info regarding Mary Hoge (or Hogue) it is all over the map. One lists her born in 1670 (I doubt Willam was a father at ten), but most say 1685 in France which would be AFTER William went to America. I would suspect that this is another William Hoge who might be a distant relative of our William. Sir James Hoge was one of several children born to George, and might be a descendant of one of his brothers.
