Hi everyone within the large family!

I'd like to post some general information which may be of interest. There are some things I found out:

1. The name: It should come from "Hexheimer", that is "one coming from Hexheim", a little town nowadays Hechtsheim" and a part of the city Mainz in Germany (you will find it easily on the map). This place was formerly called "Hehhidesheim / Hehedesheim / Hechesheim / Hexheim / Hechdensheim / Hechisheim / Heckesheim / Hegsheim", it goes back to a personal name Hehith and means "Home (-heim) of Hehith". The original form may have been Hexemer, later becoming Hexamer, when the family settled in the region around the Nahe river. It is interesting, that the people of Mainz-Hechtsheim still call themselves "Hexemer" (= inhabitant of Hechtsheim") in their dialect.
2. For genealogical research there is a interesting small book (in German) "Familie Hexamer 1519-1900. Die Penningroth'schen Ahnentafeln Fam.Nr.69, Tafeln 1-10" by W.&H. Beltz and K.H.Küstner. You can order it at: Verbandsgemeinde Kirn-Land, Postfach 49, D-55601 Kirn (about 12 EUR plus porto). It considers especially those families living around Meddersheim, Sobernheim etc. For emmigration datas it is not very useful, you should know the exact dates of birth of the persons in question.

I hope that this may help you. Now I have a personal question. I could not find a connection of my Hexamer branch to the main part of the family. The earliest date is a Jakob Heinrich Albert Hexamer, born 1878 in St. Johann (today a part of Saarbrücken), his parents were Jakob Hexamer and Auguste Böttcher. He was married to Louise Wendling from Sulzbach/Saar (born 1881). Does anyone have any information?

Greetings to all
