Does anyone know anything of a Hely family
from King's County (now Co. Offaly, Republic
of Ireland)?

Sarah Hely married Robert Owen of Raheen or
Rathdowney (Queen's County, now Co.Leix,
Republic of Ireland) in 1777.

The marriage record (in the Marriage Licence
Bonds of the Diocese of Killaloe) shows her
as Sarah Haly and shows him as Robert Owens.

Robert Owen was buried in Donaghmore, near
Rathdowney, Co. Leix, in 1797.

Sarah Owen (Hely) was still alive in 1827,
when she was a signatory of the marriage
settlement of her son, John Hely Owen, of
Belmont, Rathdowney.

She prospered well after the death of her
husband, but is not buried with him.

Several of her descendants have Hely as a
Christian name.

Sarah Hely was said to come originally from
King's County (now Co. Offaly) or possibly
from Tipperary. I assume that she was born
around 1750 and would be very interested to
hear any relevant information.
