Joan L. (Barker) Heinbaugh, 72, of Greeley, formerly of Loveland, died Jan. 2, 2005, in Greeley.
She was born April 30, 1932, in a little log cabin in Jaroso, Colo., to Frank and Mary (Altolf) Barker. She met her husband and lifelong friend E.V. (Vern) Heinbaugh at Campion Academy in Loveland. They were married on March 30, 1952.
After their marriage, they moved to the Heinbaugh family dairy and grain farm in Ridgeview, S.D., where she raised five children and cooked for her family, visitors, neighbors, friends, hired help and in the public elementary school.
The family farm was sold in 1968 to make it possible for the children to have a Christian education. She started her employment for the Seventh-day Adventist educational system at Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, Minn., in 1968 and continued her dedication to the church and the schools working in many facets until 1996, when she moved to Greeley. She had lived in Loveland off and on during her lifetime.
She was an active participating member of the Loveland Church since then. She loved children and cooking and worked in food service for Weld County School District 6 from 1996 until 2003, when she was diagnosed with acute leukemia.
She is survived by her husband, E.V. (Vern) Heinbaugh of Greeley; two sons, Randy and wife Rayleen Heinbaugh of Bemidji, Minn., and Russell and wife Terri Heinbaugh of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; three daughters, Sandra Taylor and husband Jay of Alexandria, Ky., Kandis Pettis and husband Daryl of Wayzata, Minn., and
Karen Johnson and husband Jerry of Hutchinson, Minn.; her father, Frank T. Barker; one brother, Grover Barker and wife Joy; two sisters, Bonnie Lorenz of Greeley, and Alice Downey and husband Paul of Montrose; one sister-in-law, Gillian Barker of Greeley; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Barker, a sister, Betty Gerard, and a grandson, Russel Heinbaugh.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Loveland Seventh-day Adventist Church, 950 N. Cleveland Ave.
Burial will be in Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley.
Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins is in charge of arrangements.
