Hello Ed.,
I knew that I had somewhere come across the surname SALINGER in conjunction with that of HANRAHAN. I have now located this!. It is on a headstone in Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny cemetery. The following is the full inscription:-
"Here lieth the body of/ Thos Hanrahan of Powerswood/ Who depd this life Febr 17th 1814/ ages 6years also Elenor hanrahan/ Alias Kelly who depd July 13th / 1822 agd 54 yrs/ Also Margaret Hanrahan alias/ Salingerwho depd March 6th 1820/ agd 56 yrs/ Also John Hanrahan hisband tothe above Margaret who depd (rest uncut)."

It should be noted that the surname Salinger is a corruption of 'St Ledger' and some of the memorials of this family bear the latter form. More recently it has been rendered as '[Lyster'. Indeed a Sylvester Lyster was a witness to the wedding of my grandparents Michael hanrahan and Mary Barron in 1884.

Surprisingly, I have not found many instances of "John Hanrahans" in the parish of Inistioge and none in 1823. The nearest born to that year was a John born to William Hanrahan of Madinagar or Ballyvoole and Judith ("Johanna") Walsh on 5th May, 1827.

If provided with any relevant additional information, e.g. naming order of children, I will be happy to probe forther.
